About Us

Shentel was founded in 1902, in the beautiful Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia as a telephone cooperative created by farmers. Our headquarters remains there today, in Edinburg, VA, which has a population of about 1,000 people. Shentel offers a wide variety of telecommunications services including cable TV, Internet and Home phone which we are excited to bring to our newest customers in Kentucky. Shentel currently provides these services to mostly rural counties located in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland. We take great pride in being a customer-oriented company that puts customers first. When we invest in an area, we stick around to make sure the job is done right.

Shentel purchased Big Sandy Broadband in February 2019. We are looking forward to serving the eastern Kentucky customers in Floyd and Johnson counties! Information on when the transition from Big Sandy to Shentel will take place and what current customers will need to do to become Shentel customers will be made available prior to the transition later this year. Until then, please direct all of your current service needs to Big Sandy Broadband.
